Waxing Hair Removal

Probing wax and its effectiveness for body hair removal

Waxing hair removal is a hot favorite across the world. And it never fails to amaze me how and why this seemingly clumsy technique has got such widespread penetration and acceptability!

No matter what, this formidable option to remove body hair is poised to give you silky smooth feeling you aspire for at least 2-8 weeks if not more!

As I dug deep into the method to bring you the hard boiled facts, I was surprised even more to find that this method is next only in popularity to the modern and sophisticated methods like lasers and flash lamps.

However, in the course of my research I have also met a few alarming truths worth taking a note about it. This section is full of almost all the required information you need to know about this popular method of hair removal.

What You Get Out of Waxing for Hair Removal?

You get a longer lasting hair freedom compared to shaving and depilatories (which are no doubt all time favorites for easy hair removal). I came to know about a few clients who did report a permanent hair reduction after repeated sessions of hair removal.

But there is considerable amount of doubt over such claims. Mainly because this technique does not directly close out or destroy the hair follicles which harbor hair.

Being a doctor however, I can think of one reason that might lead to lasting hair removal if not permanent (though very rare). And it is that repeated sessions may cause the hair follicles to atrophy (regress) and then close out. It is however a chance occurrence as I said earlier and could not be counted on in each and every case.

Who Could Benefit Best from Waxing Hair Removal?

  • Almost anyone can benefit who has a brave heart! Yes… it is reportedly the most painful option out there. Although the most tantalizing part i.e. pulling out of the wax strip is a matter of only fractions of a second.
  • You can count on it if you need a quick solution to remove a large part of unwanted body hair.
  • You can benefit from it if you want a longer lasting solution compared to other traditional methods.

Who Should Not Think of Waxing for Hair Removal?

  • Timid souls… perhaps are better off avoiding it. It does hurt more than the charm of saying 'Ouch'.
  • People with sensitive skin and those that are prone to infections should refrain from it. And you are the best judge for that considering your past history. If you don't know what is sensitive skin then perhaps you don't have one.
  • One should avoid it while being unhygienic herself and in an untidy environment in general, whether at home or in a salon or spa.

The Core Technique…

The mechanism through which it acts is the same as that of the age old sugaring for hair removal.

You spread wax instead of sugar paste over the skin and then apply a cloth or paper strip firmly over it and 1, 2, 3 pull it with a quick jerk opposite to the direction of your hair growth. The wax and in turn your hair will be removed.

The trick is to pull it fast to avoid pain as well as for effective hair removal. If you hesitate you will increase the anticipation for pain and also cause more physical injury than doing it in 'one go'!
