Photoepilation vs Laser

Question: Is photo epilation better or laser hair removal?

Answer:(By Editor, LHRT)

First let me surpirse you by revealing (if you don't already know it) that laser also is a form of photoepilation... Yes!

And you are not alone confusing photoepilation and lasers as two separate methods.

Go here to read other questions in Laser Hair Removal Answers section.

Photoepilations is a group and as a group it comprises of two methods:

1) Intense pulsed light (IPL a.k.a Flash lamp treatments confused as photoepilation)

2) Laser hair removal

So... IPL and lasers in fact are real kins rather than rivals (at least family wise).

What many people mean while telling 'photoepilation' is in fact Intense pulsed light treatments. So do you (if I am right)!

Hence your query in its true sense should be "Is Intense pulsed light (IPL) better or laser hair removal?"

The problem is that the question sounds something like "Is a mango better or an apple?" Perhaps that's why the idiom "Compare apples to apples" was invented.

What do I mean by that? Well... both IPL and the laser hair removal methods are good, but things change according to your requirements and preferences. What they are?

Do you need a more powerful and fast method among two?

Go for Intense pulsed light (IPL) which is more faster and powerful than lasers, but is also more crude. Crude in the sense that it targets and destroys all the large hair follicles without distinction. That is also the reason of it being faster than lasers.

Do you need a more finely controlled, sophisticated but relatively slower method among two?

Go for the lasers which is the only very finely controlled method for hair removal. No other method can rival lasers for precision. Precise in the sense that it only targets the follicles that are in anagen phase of growth. That is also the reason of it being slower than IPL.

Do you prefer a relatively cheaper and faster but less precise method?

Go for Intense pulsed light (IPL)

Can you afford a relatively costlier but more precise method?

Then laser is best for you!

There is a raging controversy over this among experts and consumers alike!

PS: It may interest you to note that both these methods are not finally certified as permanent hair removal methods. Instead they are meant for permanent hair reduction.

Hope this helps you in comparing apples to apples! ;-)
